If you do not already have Zoom installed on your computer or the Zoom App installed on your tablet/mobile device you will need to do that. It is easy because when you click on the link (above) a browser will open on your computer/tablet/mobile device and a message will guide you to install the necessary application.
Note: If this is the first time you have used Zoom for an online meeting we suggest you join the meeting at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Arriving at the Zoom session:
When you join the session by clicking the link, your screen will display a message that says you are in a virtual waiting room and that we’ll be with you shortly. When we’re ready we’ll invite you in to the workshop.
As you arrive, we’ll say hi. Have a look at the screen – look for two controls, one for audio (headset) and one for video (camera). You may have to mouse-over or touch your screen for them to be visible.
Check that your audio and video are turned on. You can click the Start Video button to turn it on. When it is turned on the diagonal red line is not visible and we will be able to see you!
Once we get started and said our “hellos” and “lovely to see yous”, we want to be able to answer every question you ask along the way. If there is too much ambient or incidental noise being picked up by your microphone, it may be a distraction for the other participants or it may be harder to hear someone’s question. So, we have a protocol . . .
Please keep your microphone muted once the session is underway. Unmute when you would like to ask a question or say something. That way everyone will hear your question/conversation and the answer.
Keeping the video on the tutor – important – please read
The video screen will tend to swap to whoever is speaking. To stop this you can “pin” the video to the tutor (Ministry of Handmade), so that it doesn’t matter who is talking, you still only see the tutor.
Using the Zoom mobile app – double tap the video of Ministry of Handmade. To “un pin” double tap again.
Using the Zoom desktop app – hover your mouse over the video of Ministry of Handmade then choose “Pin Video” from the option panel that appears. To “un pin” choose “Switch to Active Speaker”.
