Saturday 18 July 2020 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm$145.00
Over the last few years, I have received lots of enquiries about soft lampshades. These lampshades are made from two layers of fabric: an outer layer and a lining. Rather than having PVC that creates the structure of the shade, these lampshades are made using a metal frame to which the fabric is glues and stitched!
We’ll start with a simple empire shade with smooth sides, but with the techniques you learn, you’ll be able to develop your skill further to make gathered or pleated shades down the track .
Time: 3.5 hours
What’s included: Wire frame to make a shade with a 25cm diameter top and a 30cm diameter bottom**, pattern, lining fabric, instruction sheet, lampshade making tools and equipment.
What to bring:
- 1.0m of fabric with a minimum width of 137cm for the body of the shade.
- 0.5m of coordinating fabric for the top and bottom cuff if you want a contrasting cuff.
Please do not bring: silk, quilting/craft weight fabric, stretch fabric, synthetic fabric, heavy upholstery fabrics, checked fabrics.
You may purchase fabric from Ministry of Handmade on the day if you wish.
** Please note that the shade in the photo is not the size we will be making. We are still waiting on our frames to arrive. This sample was made using a frame that I already had. :)
