Pleated lampshades are such a beautiful classic look! Traditionally made on a frame with a fabric outer and lining, these shades were exacting and time-consuming to make. We have simplified and streamlined the process to make it easier for you to achieve fabulous results in a fraction of the time. Best of all . . .  there’s NO SEWING and NO GLUING :-)

You’ll have a choice of two sizes in the workshop – approximate sizes are:

• Small      10cm top ring, 20cm bottom ring, 17cm high
• Medium  15cm top ring, 30cm bottom ring, 21cm high

A larger size will be available as a take home kit  (23cm top ring, 35cm bottom ring, 24cm high)

What you’ll learn:

• How to create the lampshade base from Lampshade PVC and rings
• How to create and fix pleats
• How to create bias trim attachment for the top and bottom
• How to apply the technique of creating pleats to shades of different sizes and shapes

• Lampshade making materials
• Lampshade making tools

What to bring:

Fabric – Bring your own fabric or you can purchase from Ministry of Handmade on the day of the workshop

Fabric quantity for the small size:

• • 0.8m fabric if matching shade and trim, or
  • 0.5m fabric for shade and 0.5m fabric for trim if having a contrasting shade and trim

Fabric quantity for the medium size:

• • 1.0m fabric if matching shade and trim, or
  • 0.6m fabric for shade and 0.6m fabric for trim if having a contrasting shade and trim

Fabric recommendations:

• Cotton, linen, cotton/linen blend, cotton/polyester blend
• No synthetic fabrics please as they don’t hold a crease well
• No checks or stripes please
• Lightweight fabrics are best
• Light coloured fabrics are best as the pleats are easier to see
