Exclusive NEW Ministry of Handmade techniques.
Pleated lampshades are such a beautiful classic look! Traditionally made on a frame with a fabric outer and lining, these shades were exacting and time-consuming to make. We have simplified and streamlined the process to make it easier for you to achieve fabulous results in a fraction of the time. Best of all . . . there’s NO SEWING and NO GLUING :-)
You’ll have a choice of two sizes in the workshop – approximate sizes are:
- Small   10cm top ring, 20cm bottom ring, 17cm high
- Medium 15cm top ring, 30cm bottom ring, 21cm high
A larger size will be available as a take home kit (23cm top ring, 35cm bottom ring, 24cm high)
What you’ll learn:
- How to create the lampshade base from Lampshade PVC and rings
- How to create and fix pleats
- How to create bias trim attachment for the top and bottom
- How to apply the technique of creating pleats to shades of different sizes and shapes
What’s included:
- Lampshade making materials
- Lampshade making tools
What to bring:
Fabric – Bring your own fabric or you can purchase from Ministry of Handmade on the day of the workshop
Fabric quantity for the small size:
-
- 0.8m fabric if matching shade and trim, or
- 0.5m fabric for shade and 0.5m fabric for trim if having a contrasting shade and trim
Fabric quantity for the medium size:
-
- 1.0m fabric if matching shade and trim, or
- 0.6m fabric for shade and 0.6m fabric for trim if having a contrasting shade and trim
Fabric recommendations:
- Cotton, linen, cotton/linen blend, cotton/polyester blend
- No synthetic fabrics please as they don’t hold a crease well
- No checks or stripes please
- Lightweight fabrics are best
- Light coloured fabrics are best as the pleats are easier to see
