Mix and match your favourite colour-ways to create this striking Block Bag.
Featuring two external pockets, deep box corners, lining and a neat drawstring closure this bag is sure to become a go-to!
Join Lauren as she takes you through this fun project from pattern placement through to threading the drawstring and creating a professional finish with top-stitching.
This project is a great “stash buster” as you can piece together coordinating fabric leftovers from your stash.
The pattern is available in two sizes – the Everyday (medium) and the Escape (large) and either would make a cracker of a Christmas gift!
Discover the joy of transforming fabric and thread into a beautiful and functional bag while enjoying the company of fellow sewing enthusiasts.
What the workshop covers:
- Reading a pattern
- Pattern placement
- Adding lining and wadding
- How to add a drawstring enclosure
- Top stitching
- How to make handles and attach them securely
- How to sew box corners
- Experience required:
Whether you are familiar with the basics such as straight stitching and back stitching (or you have completed the
‘Introduction to Sewing’ workshop at Ministry of Handmade) or you’re keen to add to their sewing skills, this workshop is perfect for you.
Please note: this is not a learn to sew class.
Inclusions:
- Use of the studio sewing machines and all equipment needed
- Wadding fabric
Please bring:
Outer and handles fabric – Choose 1 – 3 fabrics for the outer. Ideally a medium weight fabric such as cotton drill, cotton duck or mid-weight linen.
- Handles Fabric: 30cm x 70cm
- Outer fabric 1: 50cm x 40cm
- Outer fabric 2: 50cm x 40cm
- Outer fabric 3 (pocket): 60cm x 50cm
Lining fabric – Choose 1 fabric for the lining, note, this will be used on the drawstring closure as well so will be seen on the outside. Ideally a lightweight cotton such as quilting cotton or lightweight linen.
- Lining fabric: 80cm x 100cm
Drawstring cord – 2.5m

Alternatively fabric and drawstring cord can be purchased on the day at Ministry of Handmade. Please get in touch to let us know if you would like to choose your fabric on the day.
