Stitching cheerfulness for those in need.
This morning I have been prepping for our community quilt sewing afternoon tomorrow. We have a team of wonderful volunteers coming along to stitch and snip our rag quilts into shape. These quilts, made from donated fabric are given to women in a domestic violence shelter on the north side of Brisbane. I have a good size stash now of the donated fabric, and before each sewing day, I prep the fabric by sorting and cutting in colour ways so when everyone arrives they can jump straight on the sewing machines!!
It is a joy to work as a group on this project, building community and creating quilts that hopefully will bring some comfort those who are really hurting. And the side bonus is that we are making good use of fabric that has been sitting in people’s cupboards. If you would like to join us we still have space for a few more helpers. Just let me know you are coming. We are kicking off at 1.30pm and finishing at 5.00pm but any help is welcome!
