I have always loved framing up interesting pieces for the wall. All through the Christmas break I have wanted to get to this but today is the day. I have a collection of old frames (mainly from op shops). I prefer these to new shop-bought frames which, although cheap, are usually not wood but MDF with acrylic not glass.

I have some pieces I want to frame….fabrics, a canvas bought in San Juan many years ago and a recently purchased water colour. I have a local framing man (John, at Ritz Picture Framing, Bald Hills) who will cut matt boards to size for me at a very reasonable price. Throw into the mix some paint for changing the colour of the frames if necessary, some spray glue and a few other bits and bobs of hardware and tape and you are on your way.

Custom framing can be expensive and ready made frames are usually quite specific size ratios, so the DIY route is often the best solution. I have been known to walk into op shops with my piece of artwork in hand to find the right size frame or a list of measurements of the pieces I want to frame.
