I have been working a new project for the baby showers that I host at Ministry of Handmade – an alphabet book! The goal is to develop a workshop project that can be made collaboratively by a group of friends and/or family of the lovley Mum-to-be as a gift for the new baby.
I like the idea of an alphabet book where all the pages are fabric and the letters are all appliqued. The book will be awesome for all ages – nice and soft and scrunchable for a smaller child, hardwearing (tear-proof) and washable, full of texture and contrasts and a great learning aid as the baby grows and starts recognising letters. And the best thing about it……made at a baby shower it will be stitched with love and become an heirloom! I may even get each person who helps make one to embroider their initials on the back cover.
What you see here is the first page of letters attached to the fusible pellon. This will be joined back-to-back with the front cover and the edges bound in a contrasting fabric. The rest of the pages will be finished in a similar style. The finished book will have eight pages. I can’t wait to finish it and assemble the project!
