This little dress has a story! My mother* made it for me in the 1960s as a christening dress. My younger sister, Robyn, and I were christened on the same day. Robyn was a baby and I was a two year old.
My mother chose white cotton dobby voile for the dress and the style is very reminiscent of little girls’ dresses from that era. There are buttons down the back and a tie sash. No doubt Robyn and my youngest sister, Karen, also wore this dress in the 60s.
The little dress made an appearance again one generation later! It was worn by my daughter, Lauren, as a two year old, at the christening of her brother, James, in December 1987.
This dress now has heirloom status for me and I shall hold it in trust for the next generation of little girls.
* My mother, Florence Francis (nearly 81 years old), is honorary patron of the Ministry of Handmade because she taught me to sew.
