Handmade-39Mad Hatters

April 2011…. my daughter Lauren was guest of honour at a Mad Hatters Tea Party in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. It was her bridal shower thrown by her four lovely bridesmaids.

I was in the middle of the wedding preparations – sewing bridesmaids’ dresses, Lauren’s lace top for the wedding, my own outfit and decorations and table linen for the reception. My head was full of silk, organza, beads, cotton reels and other items of haberdashery. I couldn’t help myself…my mad hat was to be about sewing.

I used an existing straw hat that I no longer wore, covered it in the lining material from my dress, and then went to town!! I even included a pin cushion on the side with pins spelling out L loves J (just visible in the bottom of the photo!)

The photo shows my mother, Florence, (as crafty and clever as they come), Lauren, me and my sister, Karen who is very crafty as well (and whom I blame for my passion for quilting as she inspired me to start my first quilt.)

It was a beautiful afternoon of fine bone china, delicious treats and impromptu song writing. Thank you Helen, Tammy, Jess and Eloise.
