Ball dress

Making use of the bits you usually throw away!

In 2010 I received an invitation to a ball, so set about making a dress. As I cut out the fabric (which by the way is curtain material from Spotlight…sshh, don’t tell anyone!) I became fascinated by the very pretty and quite fluffy form of the selvedge. An idea popped into my head ….to use it around the neck of the dress…..and so the bits that usually end up in the bin became the feature!

The dress is fully lined, hung beautifully and felt wonderful to wear.

What of it now? Being ever practical (and not often in the habit of attending balls), I chose a design that would allow me to cut the dress off to knee length when the ball was over, so that I could get more wear out of it. I have cut it off and worn it several times.
