I made this sewing sampler in the 1960s when I was in Year 4 at Wavell Heights State School.
Starting in Year 4, the Queensland State School system ran sewing lessons for girls every Friday afternoon. (No recollection of what the boys were doing at this time!!!) This embroidery sampler was one of the first things we stitched! There was something quite mesmerising about counting all those tiny threads and choosing all the colours that appealed to my nature! I remember loving these Friday afternoon sessions.
I am not really a hoarder, but I have kept this! I guess it was because it carries with it some of my earliest memories of sewing!
