Rag Quilt Purple

Please note: This workshop is run over two Thursday evenings: 13 July and 20 July.

This must be the fastest way ever!

Learn the rag quilt technique and start a rag quilt using squares.

Come and learn how to make a great fully reversible quilt. Equally beautiful from both sides, this quilt has two different finishes – a smooth traditional looking side and a beautiful, textured chenille side that becomes more soft and raggy, the more you wash it.

Once you have learnt this technique, you will be able to make a simple rag quilt over and over again, each time creating a treasured item that will be loved for a lifetime. Quilt-creme-800sqThere are only a few basic steps to making both of these simple quilts. Awesome!! We will start the quilt in the workshop teaching all the basic steps and helping you get well and truly under way. You can then easily finish the quilt at home.

Please note that the quilt made from squares is very warm as it uses cotton batting as a fabric lining.

Experience required: Intermediate beginner.

This workshop is perfect for those with some basic sewing skills. Attendees must be familiar with the use of a sewing machine.

Tutor: Julie Hillier

Course length: 5 hours split over two evenings: 6:30pm to 9:00pm on Thursday 13 July and Thursday 20 July. Registering for this workshop means you have booked for the two evenings.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • Use of a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat
  • Cutting quilt squares or strips
  • Sandwiching technique (combining the batting with the fabric)
  • Joining the quilting squares or strips
  • Creating the “raggy” finish
  • Applying binding
